Pandora's
illness was as mysterious as her name. Pandora belongs to a feral cat colony that was abandoned by the person
who had been feeding them when she moved and left them behind. Safe Haven has since been feeding the cats and has
had them neutered. Pandora was found during the last snowstorm unable to walk and dragging herself with her front paws.
Assuming an injury with broken bones, we immediately took her to a Veterinarian for X-Rays. It turned out
she had no visible injuries, but she was developing life-threatening breathing problems, so she was referred to the Neurology
Department of a specialty veterinary practice. A CAT Scan revealed that she had a massive tumor pressing on her spine
impeding her ability to walk and breath normally. As any true No-Kill organization would do, Safe Haven decided to
go ahead with the lifesaving and expensive special surgery.
The surgery was a success and, thankfully
for Pandora, the tumor turned out to be infection-based and benign. On the 4th day after surgery Pandora
stood up and on the 5th day she was walking again.
Please consider donating to Safe
Haven Animal Sanctuary's newly created Pandora's Fund to help defray the cost of Pandora's life-saving
surgery and to help save more lives.
Donations to Pandora's Fund will go directly towards emergency
medical care for Sussex County feral/barn cats who have been neutered through Safe Haven's Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR)
program and for dogs in Safe Haven's Dog Transport program.
