Reduce the population of homeless cats and dogs humanely by:
Increasing the number of free and very low cost spays/neuters so that every cat and dog is wanted by a caring family
Trap-Neuter-Return to stabilize, then reduce, the numbers of stray cats in Sussex County. TNR is needed for cat colonies in towns, farms, shopping centers, trailer parks, subdivisions and industrial areas.
In our sanctuary’s medical facility we will be able to do a higher volume ofspay/neuter, including the pets of people with limited income, with a focuson pit bulls and feral cats.

Retain dogs and cats in the homes where they are cared for by:
Working creatively with pet owners to keep the bond they have with their animals
Financial constraints, along with behavior or medical problems, which cause people to consider giving up their pets can often be resolved by providing nonjudgmental information and financial support
Currently our Pet Food Pantry focuses on improving the lives of stray cats by providing caretakers, often limited-income seniors, of cat colonies with free pet food, as well as spay/neuter services
Retention team of coordinators, through counseling and food and medical helps people keep with their beloved animals.
Rescue abused/abandoned cats and dogs by:
Saving Sussex County and Delaware animals who are being abused, at risk of being put down at pounds, or whose caretaker has passed away
Serving as a true safety net for our community’s animals dogs and cats
Reunite lost cats and dogs with their guardians:
Managing dog control for Kent County in accordance with our contract and all Delaware laws.
Working creatively to find guardians with good photos on our web site and social media.

Rehabilitate cats and dogs who are injured, ill or have behavior issues by:
Providing the medical care and re-socialization necessary for animals to livea full life
As a true No-Kill shelter, Safe Haven gives the highest-caliber of veterinary and behavioral diagnostics and treatment to our animals, to ensure that every animal under our care has their needs met
Re-Home cats and dogs with proactive adoption activities by:
Finding new homes for animals will be easier because Safe Haven is a No-Kill, animal-centered sanctuary that is cage-free and light-filled, so adopters are happy to visit.
Holding off-site adoption events in the community

Animals not adopted will be loved as part of Safe Haven's family for the rest of their natural lives
